Key Fob Battery Size Finder

Find the dimensions and voltage for the code on your old battery.

Enter CR2032 or just 2032. Eight CR sizes covered.

Example only · enter your battery code

CR2032

3 V · 20.0 mm wide · 3.2 mm thick

This example is not a recommendation for your vehicle. Confirm your old cell and owner’s manual.

No readable code? Check measurements

Measure the old cell with calipers. This suggests a size; it cannot confirm a safe replacement. Search windows are ±0.25 mm wide and ±0.15 mm thick, chosen for this aid, not manufacturer tolerances. Use a decimal point.

Look up a manufacturer-listed fob

Limited coverage: two verified fobs, not a complete vehicle database. Unlisted cars need the code or their own manual. Original US fobs only; replacement remotes can differ.

Your choice updates the result above. Manufacturer instructions remain the final check.

How to find the right key fob battery

Start with the exact code in your owner’s manual and on the battery already in the fob. This finder checks eight CR coin-cell types against Panasonic’s specifications and returns their nominal voltage, diameter, and thickness. It does not identify your vehicle from a battery code. If the old cell disagrees with the manual, a previous owner may have installed the wrong battery or changed the remote. Resolve that mismatch before buying.

Read the full code.
Match the letters and the numbers. This drawing illustrates a marked coin cell; it is not actual size and does not show installation polarity.

The measurement aid compares your old cell with the eight nominal sizes in the chart. Confirm any suggested size in the manual before buying. The manufacturer-listed fob lookup covers only the two choices shown. Each result links to its primary source. Battery prices and lifespan vary, so they are not part of the result.

Worked example: CR2025 or CR2032?

A 20.0 mm wide, 2.5 mm thick cell points to CR2025. The measurement aid returns CR2025 as a candidate. CR2032 has the same diameter but is 3.2 mm thick: a difference of 0.7 mm. Check the printed code and manual before choosing either one.

Both cells have a nominal 3 V rating, but matching voltage does not make them interchangeable. A thicker cell may strain the holder or case; a thinner one may make poor contact. Do not bend the contacts, add foil, or stack batteries to make a different size work. Replace the specified number of cells with the specified type.

Use the listed dimensions to compare cells. All eight cells below are non-rechargeable 3 V lithium manganese dioxide cells. See Panasonic’s CR-series specifications, with its separate CR2354 product specification.

Battery codes help distinguish sizes, but decoding the digits alone can be misleading. CR2450’s listed diameter is 24.5 mm, so this tool uses a verified size library rather than assuming every diameter is the first two digits. Laboratory capacity does not directly predict how long a battery will last in your remote.

Common questions before you buy

Can I find the battery from my car's year, make, and model?

Those details help you locate the correct manual, but the physical fob type matters too. An aftermarket remote or a different optional key can use another cell. This finder lists only two directly checked fobs. If yours is absent, use your manual's battery section and compare the existing cell instead of selecting a similar vehicle.

Can I use CR2032 instead of CR2025?

Use the battery type specified for your fob. CR2032 and CR2025 share a 20 mm diameter, but differ in thickness by 0.7 mm. A shared voltage or a case that seems to close does not establish compatibility. Do not force a thicker cell into the holder or modify the contact tabs.

What if I cannot read the code on the old battery?

Check the manual first. If you can safely remove the cell using the manufacturer's procedure, measure its diameter and thickness with calipers and use the measurement aid as a shortlist. A ruler may not distinguish closely spaced thicknesses reliably. If the manual is unclear or the battery is missing, ask for help identifying the fob.

Does changing the battery erase key programming?

Battery replacement and key programming are different jobs. Follow your vehicle's instructions for any checks after replacement; do not assume that a nonworking fob automatically needs reprogramming. Verify the cell type, seating, polarity, and case closure first. If the vehicle still does not recognize it, our car key programming service can help assess the next step.

Can I replace a CR cell with a rechargeable battery?

Do not substitute a rechargeable cell based only on similar dimensions. The battery's chemistry, voltage, and charging requirements must match the device specification. This finder covers only the listed non-rechargeable CR cells. Rechargeable codes and soldered batteries are outside its scope; use the fob manufacturer's instructions or professional help.

What should I check if the new battery does not help?

Confirm the exact code, correct polarity, clean seating, and fully closed case using the manual. Then test the buttons near the vehicle. Damage to the fob or another vehicle issue can also cause failure. See our battery replacement guide for checks, or the dead key fob starting guide if you need the vehicle's backup procedure.

Before opening the fob

Use the opening point and tools shown in your manual. Photograph the old cell’s orientation before removing it, avoid bending contacts, and keep the work area dry. This finder does not specify which side faces up or how many batteries your remote takes. For an original US 2025 Rogue Intelligent Key, consult Nissan’s owner’s manual, page 525. For the Model 3 accessory fob, see Tesla’s key instructions.

Keep new and used coin cells away from children and pets. Manufacturer manuals warn that swallowing a coin cell can cause severe internal burns. Seek immediate medical attention if ingestion is suspected. If the compartment will not close securely, keep the fob and battery away from children and arrange a repair.
